Blackburn v Manchester United - One Sided? Tonight's match is at Ewood Parks is going to be one sided - that's what the punters think as reflected in the odds bookies are offering. 4/11 MU and 8/1 Blackburn, with Rooney expected to score first. Blackburn have upset a few expectations this season and could do it again tonight. Not least, they turned the tables at Old Trafford at the New Year, when the odds were 20/1 against them. That night was exceptional with a 33% goal/shot rate. They could do it again tonight. It's a classic situation for avoiding betting unless you use a system: Blackburn are fighting to stay out of the drop zone, and Man U are on the final lap of the title run in. Man U have been vulnerable in this situation in the past, but consistency pays them. I predict Man City to fall away and Spurs to take #2 spot. I wonder what the odds are on that?
Man City to Implode? Seems I'm not the only one who thinks Man City are going to find it tough for the rest of the season. The pundits are now comparing them to Newcastle in 1996, who topped the Premiership by 12 pts in the February, but lost it to Man U on the home strait.Full comment at http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17433293
Three Stories this Weekend For me, there are only three stories this weekend. Even where I am in Italy for a break, Fabrice Muamba's heart attack is making headlines. Let's hope he makes a full recovery. As a Welshman, the next story for me is that of Swansea City's hammering of Fulham. Rodgers has done a great job - though Martinez laid the foundations. The Swans will surely enjoy at least another season of the Premier League. And finally, yes, it has to be Man Utd, demonstrating their home-strait ruthlessness. Enough said. Mancini can forget the glory.
Has Redknapp Lost Focus? The BBC is reporting that Harry is still 'hoping' for a top 4 place in the Premiership. Well, many of us who thought Spurs were in with a chance this season are disapppointed with that attitude. I think Harry's lost his focus since Capello capered off in early February.Hope is not good enough - he's had a string of bad results and he can't blame the players. The only thing that's really changed is the England manager's vacancy.I said yesterday that it wasn't in Man City's DNA to win the Premiership. Maybe the same applies to Spurs.
Mancini got it wrong, bad night for Manchester all round... It's clear that Mancini got it wrong last night, and he knows it. He's not up to scratch - that's twice in less than a week that his tactics have been wanting.Man U are out as well - but they can ride this. I'm still backing City to finish 2nd, maybe even 3rd in the Premiership. As I said yesterday, it's not in their DNA. Pressure is telling.
